Things to know
This will depend on which technology you currently have.
If your modem connects directly to a phone socket on the wall, you are a Fibre to the Node customer. If your modem connects to a white nbn connection box, you are likely to be a Fibre to the Curb customer.
For Fibre to the Node customers, it should take around 5 business days from when the order is submitted. If the technician can’t complete the install on the first appointment, a follow up will be booked to finish the job soon after.
For Fibre to the Curb customers, it will take around 19 – 29 business days to complete and will require a pre-installation visit.
In most cases you can keep your current modem but it depends on what you’ve got. We can help you work it out when you’re ready to upgrade.
nbn co announced that 3.5 million Australian homes would be eligible to have their nbn service upgraded by 2023, giving them the capability to access the fastest speeds available in Australia. As nbn has been conducting the rollout, these upgrades are already well underway across a range of Australian suburbs.
We’ll contact you once we have the right plan ready for your home.
Eligible homes will be upgraded from Fibre to the Node (FTTN) or Fibre to the Curb (FTTC) to Fibre to the Premises (FTTP).
Yes, we have a variety of plans available, all with different typical evening speeds. Find out more on our nbn plans page.
After you’ve placed your upgrade order an nbn technician will install equipment inside and outside of the premises.
The Dodo team will book the required appointments with an nbn approved technician.
Fibre to the Node Process
If your modem is connected directly to a phone socket on the wall, you are probably a Fibre to the Node customer.
Installation visit (usually within a week)
The nbn approved technician will arrive to install the nbn equipment inside and outside your premises (no pre-installation visit required). You, or an authorised person over the age of 18, will need to be present during the installation to give the technician both internal and external access to your premises. In most cases, this appointment will take between 3 to 4 hours. Please note complex upgrades could take longer or require a follow up appointment.
Fibre to the Curb Process
If you connect your modem to a white nbn connection box, you are probably a Fibre to the Curb customer.
Pre-installation Visit (usually within a week)
Here the nbn approved technician will assess the outside of your premises. This will help them to identify any obstacles early and prepare for your upcoming installation appointment.
You don’t have to be home during the day. This visit will take around an hour. Please keep in mind that complex connections may take longer.

In most cases the upgrade will be completely free, but there are exceptions. The free nbn install that comes with a Fibre Connect upgrade is a standard install. nbn will generally install the nbn connection box on the inside surface of an external wall closest to the street. The location of the connection box can sometimes be negotiated with the nbn technician, but not always.
Power is required to run the nbn connection box. If there is no power at the location where nbn installs the connection box, you may need an electrician to run power there at your own cost.
Most customers will not need an electrician to do any work.
